Main Article Content
Abstract
Proficiency in English has become a crucial need, affects many aspects of students' lives, and plays an important role in developing communication skills and professional competencies. One way to enhance students' engagement in English language learning is through the application of the concept of student agency. Student agency refers to students' capacity to take initiative, make decisions, and control their learning process. To boost student involvement in English language learning, educators can strengthen student agency by focusing on three main aspects: voice, choice, and ownership. Strategies to optimize student agency involve various approaches, including a culture of listening, differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and self-reflection. The application of these strategies is expected to increase student engagement in English language learning, prepare them for challenges in the workforce, and develop essential leadership and problem-solving skills. By giving students more control and choice in their learning process, it is hoped that a more dynamic and meaningful learning experience can be created.
